Mustang

On the borders of Nepal and Tibet, we can find the small kingdom of Mustang, located to the north of massive Annapurna and Dhaulagiri.
Geographically it belongs to the tibetan plateau, but politically it is within the Nepalese territory. Due to the absence of high altitude pass, this kingdom has always been the place of passage, privileged for the caravanning, which links the Tibet and India for the business of salt. Hence this small kingdom has link with its neighbour to the north since the past centuries. The different kings of Mustang, whose dynasty continues to the date, traditionally get married to the daughters of rich aristocrat family of Lhasa. In other word, the capital of Tibet was the cultural and religious point of this small Himalayan kingdom. Until today, the present king administers the affairs of his people.
During the monsoon, the rainfall rarely comes in this region. Hence the climate is dry and the landscape looks like exactly to that of Tibetan plateau. Aridity, hills eroded by the wind, oasis of greenary near the village are the characteristic feature of the landscape.
An exceptional journey comes to an end on arriving at Lo-Manthang, the administrative centre of Mustang which is located on the plain desert of altitude.
